iceland has a 12-month tourist season, summer season and winter season. iceland enjoys a much milder climate than its name and location adjacent to the arctic circle would imply. a branch of the gulf stream flows along the southern and the western coast greatly moderating the climate.

midnight suniceland summer holidays:
in the summer months, if you want daylight! iceland is in the gulf stream, so temperature can reach above 20c during summer.the summer tourist season is from late may to earlyseptember. midnight sun - during the first half of this period the sun stays above the horizon for almost 24 hours and the interplay of light and shadows on mountains, lava fields and glaciers yield an ever changing landscape.

northern lightsiceland winter holidays: as the dark nights draw in and during winter months you should go to iceland the see the northern lights (aurora borealis).

yu fan travel recommends the exotic city of reykjavik or the northern town of akureyri as the main northern lights (aurora borealis) destination, as these locations are ideally located in the middle of the northern lights zone. the northern lights; nature's own light show, are solar winds that meet the atmosphere in a zone around the magnetic north pole, forming arches, waves and curls of light moving across the sky, with sudden rays of light shooting down from space.

the northern lights activity takes place all year in all types of weather. however, to actually see the lights, the weather has to be dark and clear (no guarantee!). in iceland it is dark between august and april, with the main northern lights season from november to april. the northern lights are visible from the afternoon until the middle of the night.
